Unfortunately, before I could really get into modeling, I had to get braces. I was counting down the days until they came off! It was very hard to wait that time out, but it was so very much worth it. I took this time to prepare myself for when my braces came off so I would be ready. I was still able to do local shows here and there for practice along with a few photoshoots.
The day when my braces came off was one of the best days of my life! I cried when my dentist told me it was time. I was so excited for my future in modeling now, because it was quickly become the present. My mom and I had been following Mark Guerra's work while I still had braces, he was a friend of a friend. We immediately planned a shoot with him and a stylist he works with, Leah Moon, back in January of last year to start working on my portfolio.
Last year was spent working on becoming the best model I can be. Building up my portfolio, practicing my walk, and learning various poses. I started doing shows up in Austin after awhile. I made contacts at each event and worked my way up from there. It took some time, but from my experience I've learned that isn't always necessarily such a bad thing. Now I am starting off 2017 as a Modelemi Model and I couldn't be happier! I am thankful for everyone I have met this past year and all that they have done for me, you know who you are.
A lot of people have doubted me along the way. They thought I wasn't pretty enough, made comments behind my back, and believed I was just wasting my time. My advice to aspiring models out there would be is to never listen to a single word they say. The more successful you get, the more haters you will have. If this is what you want then go for it! The only thing holding you back is yourself. Modeling isn't just about dressing up and looking beautiful, while that is very important! It's about having confidence and owning it in every outfit you wear like it's the best one ever.
In five years, I hope to have made it as a successful top model. I hope to travel the world, model for brands such as Burberry and Chanel, and be a role model for young girls. Maybe write a book, start a small jewelry or clothing line, and do a bit of photography as well. Most importantly, I hope to always strive to work hard and stay humble.
